I love love love love love love, etc. CHRISTMAS. Y’all, it’s the bestest best. I love the season that we’re coming into with Thanksgiving and then it immediately falls right into the Christmas season and all the Christmas activities. When the clock strikes midnight on Thanksgiving night, Santa might as well just go ahead and come on because I’m just like Buddy in Elf when he freaks out that Santa is coming. If you’ve never seen Elf, I need you to come out of your hole of despair (because you’re missing out) and grab it on Amazon by clicking the link below. Seriously, it’s like, $10.00. You need this in your life.
Now that we have it clear that you need Elf if your life. Let’s move on to different things. In the winter time we tend to get stagnant in our workouts because it’s cold outside, the days are short, it’s gloomy.. Believe me, I get it. The winter blues can hit hard if we’re not careful!
That being said, I have put together a list of TWENTY FIVE- get it? December 25? I’m not funny but that’s okay, just humor me- different activities to do with your spouse.
Here we go! Christmas Activities to keep you busy from The Friday after Thanksgiving until December 25
Cut Down your Own Christmas Tree
Cutting down our own Christmas tree is a very fond memory that I have from growing up. We would load up and go out to eat lunch then we would go to a tree farm and pick out our tree followed by hot chocolate. Then we’d go home and decorate which leads me into my next activity! If you can’t do fresh trees for allergy reasons, Amazon really does have some great trees that are even pre-lit! Click the pic below to check it out.
Decorate your Christmas Tree
Decorating the tree for your home can be romantic as well as fun. Think outside the box. It doesn’t have to be a perfect tree with all of the right puffs and all the colors coordinate and everything. Mix it up! Make your own decorations. Make popcorn strings and jelly bean strings and weird ornaments and enjoy the time together. Use your imagination.
Try a new seasonal recipe
The holiday season is a perfect time to try new recipes and get cozy inside for the early dark evenings and snuggle up with your fur babies and/or family members. There are some amazing seasonal recipes that are perfect for this type of weather. Two of my favorites, the best chili recipe or here for Chicken Tortilla Soup if that is more your jam.
Take a weekend trip to a ‘Christmas Town’
This one does have a price tag on it, but ya know, if you’re needing a weekend getaway and you’ve got some extra cash I say go for it. Here’s what I mean by a Christmas Town. One of my absolute favorite places to go at Christmas time is New York City. It’s bone chillingly cold, the entire atmosphere screams Christmas, and well, it’s NYC. However, I know that NYC is expensive. I know that there are cities all over the country that really go all out for Christmas and one of them is Branson, Missouri and their park called Silver Dollar City. Their prices are not like NYC and still tons of things to do and lots of shopping. There are many cities like that all over the country so hop on Google and find one close to you!
I will say this, one year David and I went to NYC at Christmas time and it was one of the most romantic trips we have ever been on and we’ve been to lots of places!
Go see a new Christmas Movie at the Theater
Each year there are new Christmas movies that come out and I always love going to the theater. Go see what’s coming out and head to the theater for a night out!
Learn about Hanukkah
This one may seem a bit odd for a Christmas fun list, but hear me out. Hanukkah can be a big part of the Christmas culture and we all have people in our lives that celebrate it. Learning about it can be fun, plus it never hurts to learn about other cultures!
Make Christmas Gifts
Again, I am quite literally the last person to tell you how to decorate or do crafts, that’s why there are craft and interior design bloggers and oh how we love them so. BUT! If you enjoy to make things and have the crafty spirit then make your Christmas gifts! It’s a great way to save money, plus it keeps your hands busy and makes you feel good about yourself. 🙂
Go buy Christmas PJ’s
BUY CHRISTMAS PAJAMAS. Why? Because you can that’s why. Dress up like a candy cane. I triple dog dare you. Click the pic below and go find you some Christmas Jammies on Amazon. You’re Welcome. Besides the silly Christmas pajamas, maybe a spicy outfit for the hubs that is Christmas themed might be more the move here… Loosen up a bit!
Make Christmas goodies for your neighbors
Don’t know your neighbors? Guess what? Neither do I! This is something I plan to do this year because I need to know my neighbors and who doesn’t love banana bread with a red bow on it? Don’t know how to make Banana Bread? No problem, I’ve got you, sis. Head over here to my banana bread recipe, make that bread and throw a bow on it. I won’t blame you if you have some *ahem* liquid courage to get out and meet your neighbors. 🙂
Throw an Adult Christmas Get Together
No, it does not have to look like a party from a magazine. I’m talking, toss some cookies on a plate, grab some Egg Nog throw some rum in it, set out a board game and get your friends together. Board game suggestions listed below!
Take a Meal to a Homeless Shelter
The holiday season can be a tough time of year for those that have hit hard times or have minimal to no friends or family. A great way to give back is to take a meal to a local homeless shelter or serve at the homeless shelter. I promise you will get back more than you give. It’s an amazing experience.
Another AMAZING thing that is done this time of year is put on by the Salvation Army and it is called Angel Tree . Basically what the program does, is you can choose from a list a child that they have in their program and you can purchase their Christmas gifts for them based on their needs and wants. I have done this every single year and the looks on these precious kid’s faces is absolutely incredible. Now listen, these kids are not asking for stuff like expensive video games or something (I’ve seen a few but not many) they’re asking for things like a coat because they don’t have one, or new shoes because the ones they have are too small. Y’all. Give the baby a coat. Go grab yourself an angel and help them out.
Go look at Christmas Lights
This one is fairly self explanatory I think…. Apple Cider and Christmas lights. Even better, rent a convertible, dress up really warm, put the top down and drink your cider while looking at Christmas lights. We’ve done that and it’s so much fun.
Pick some Favorites from ABC Family’s/Freeform 25 Days of Christmas
Freeform is apparently the new ABC Family. So head to their website to see their 25 days of Christmas movie schedule by clicking here!
Make Apple Cider and go outside
In the cooler winter months, the stars are brighter. Why? No idea, I’m not a meteorologist, but I know it’s a fact. Make yourself some apple cider, dress warmly and head outside to look at those bright stars.
YES. This. Okay? Find somewhere that does Christmas Karaoke and GO DO IT. That’s all you need to know, Christmas karaoke is a thing.
Download an Advent Calendar
Advent calendars are also full of information and fun things to do over the December month. Click here to go download an Advent Calendar!
Write a letter to Santa
There are places that collect letters to Santa and you should write a letter to Santa and send it. I know that Macy’s on 34th in NYC has a mailbox so when ya’ll take your romantic weekend away, write a letter to Santa and go mail it! Because you can and it’s fun, don’t be a stick in the mud.
Christmas Coloring Book
This one is probably one of my favorites that I will be doing this year. Grab a Christmas coloring book and a fresh pack of Crayola (YES, Crayola) crayons and go to town. Fill it up before December 25 and admire your work. And you have to grab the big box of Crayons, I mean, what if you need the color Perry winkle? Then you’d be outta luck if you didn’t have the big box.
Yep, these are a thing too. Christmas festivals! They have all kinds of different foods, and carpentry and animals and music and all sorts of fun things to do. Find one in your area, you won’t regret it.
Make Gingerbread houses
Go old school and make yourself a Gingerbread House. Step out of your comfort zone and make one or 6. Go big or go home, know what I mean? This Gingerbread House Template from All Recipes will get you started and This recipe from Food Network is for the gingerbread and icing!
New recipe for Christmas Morning Breakfast – Build a tradition!
My mom makes homemade cinnamon rolls from scratch every single Christmas morning and has for literally as long as I can remember. I have spoken with lots of people though that they don’t have a specific Christmas morning breakfast. SO! Since I can’t give you our family recipe for Cinnamon rolls, head over to my favorite food blogger’s website Chelsea’s Messy Apron for her Cinnamon Roll Recipe and make you and your hubbie some yummy cinnamon rolls.
Go to a Christmas Eve Service
Even if your church doesn’t put one on, find one. They’re so beautiful and peaceful. You won’t regret it.
Who’s in the Christmas Spirit?
WHEW! Did you even read all of that? Gosh, that was a lot. My word count says 1894… nope 1925. Y’all, this really is such a wonderful time of year. Cuddle up with your hubbie, do a few (or all) of these date ideas and slow down and enjoy yourself.
This time of year can get really busy with all of the things we feel like we should be doing. This year, I make the promise to my hubbie to slow down and be more purposeful and not feel like I have to do it all. We will spend more time together and we will definitely be doing some of these activities.
Merry Christmas and Much Love.
