Have you ever heard the term summer body? I know you have and you’re mind probably instantly goes to a perfectly shaped model that has no weird marks on her skin or stretch marks from having a baby or any other sort of “deformity”.
Let me tell you right now that that is not real life.
A real life bikini body is one that is healthy strong and makes you feel confident; but how do you obtain this body that you feel confident in?
Because let’s face it, I know how you feel. No really, I truly do.
You feel like you’re never gonna look the same way again, you’re never gonna feel confident again, and your body is ruined.
I have a truth bomb for you. Your body is not ruined.
Your body is this amazing vessel that has taken you through some hard times. Your body has given birth to a beautiful child and has given you and your child life.
Allow me to repeat. Your body is NOT ruined.
Your body is strong and has earned every mark, every weird indent, and everything that the world may deem “ugly”, is actually a mark of beauty and has a story to go with it.
However! You still want to feel amazing in a bathing suit and I totally understand that.
What you’re probably feeling on the inside is more than just skin deep, so may I suggest this amazing book by Lysa Terkeurst? It will change the way you see yourself. Which is something that you can work on while you’re working through the physical part of this.

7 Pieces of advice to achieve your summer body #1 – Understand your body type
Before you can begin you have to understand your body type. Which if you don’t know what your body type is you can go here and check out my full post on how to understand your body type once you’re done reading this post.
I’m going to repeat here what I said in the other blog post. There is not a good body type or a bad body type. It’s just a body type. Understanding what body type you have is what will make all the difference in the world on your journey.
Because if you’re eating for an ectomorph and you’re a mesomorph, then that could be why you’re not seeing results.
But more on that in the other post which you can go read once you’re done here!
7 Pieces of advice to achieve your summer body- Eating for your body type
The next thing is to eat for your body type. In regards to weight loss, calories are king. Think of calories as your fuel and your body is a fancy sports car. I’m talking European model sports car.
If you’re putting low grade fuel in a high end car, it’s not going to run well, right? Right.
Here’s the deal.
While it is important to eat highly nutrient dense food, you shouldn’t get too hung up around the axle about the micro nutrients in your food.
I’m getting a little food geeky here, so follow me closely.
Micronutrients equals the “quality” of your food. Meaning, the vitamins and minerals that are in your food.
“Eating clean” as it says in my business tagline, means that you’re eating well. As in you’re not over eating.
You’re eating real food and staying within your caloric range and still enjoying a bit of ice cream, cheese dip or heck even a doughnut.
You following me? Calories are king. Stay within your caloric range, eat yummy bright and good food, but don’t be afraid to have a treat and you’ll be just fine.
This isn’t about what you’re restricting from your diet, it’s about what you include.
7 Pieces of advice to achieve your summer body – Drink more water
Confession- I have a hard time getting enough water. There, I said it.
However! I do have some pretty killer tricks to making sure that I do get the water I need.
- I have a cup that has measurements on it
- I set a reminder on my phone to make sure that I’m on track throughout the day with my water
- Sometimes I put fruit and or veggies in my water to give it flavor. Get outta town, right?

7 Pieces of advice to achieve your summer body – Forget the scale
For the love of dumbbells forget the scale. The more I’ve coached my girls and the more I’ve written, the more I have come to despise the scale.
I even went on a full rant about the scale because girls get SO hung up on the scale.
Forget the scale.
Go by how you are feeling and how your clothes fit. If you must weigh, keep it to once a month and that is ALL. Keep track of non scale victories by putting marbles in a jar for every non scale victory you have so that you can see that you are more than a freaking number on a scale.

Girl, go to bed. I know, right? You have a child and they STILL don’t sleep through the night. Well. I feel your pain. My child didn’t sleep for the first 2.5 years of his life and naptime is still a struggle.
Bedtime is important. You MUST get sleep. You must. No two ways about it, sister.
Creating a bedtime routine is quite possibly one of the best things you can do for yourself as well as your kiddo.
Sleep is like a reset for the body and it’s absolutely vital to your wellbeing and reaching your goals.
7 pieces of advice to achieve your summer body- Watch your alcohol
Looorrrddd help me I had to go here, right?
I won’t stay on this topic long because I love a yummy drink myself but when we’re on a goal path we need to watch it.
Limit your alcohol to just a few per week and count it into your calorie range because it adds up quicker than you might think!
There was a gal that loved her wine and she liked to have two glasses at night. Well, when she realized that two glasses meant 300 calories and it counted toward her daily intake, she cut back to one per night then one every other night because she didn’t want to be hungry!
See what I mean? You don’t have to give up alcohol to lose weight, just be careful. Those calories add up quickly!
7 pieces of advice to achieve your summer body-Have a workout plan in place
Last, but absolutely not least is to have a workout plan in place.
You need to make sure that you are getting a quality workout plan from someone that knows what they’re doing.
What if I told you that you didn’t have to spend hours in the gym and you could achieve your fitness goals while applying these steps and working out in about 30 min a day?
It’s true. I have some instant downloads in my shop that are workouts that equal out to about 30 minutes a day (5 days a week) and they will get you on the right track to your goals?
You are worth 30 minutes a day of moving your body and sweating. You just are! Your hubby and your little one need you and they need the best version of you and taking time to take care of yourself allows you to be the best version of you.
Last thing I want to leave you with.
You’re probably saying whoa there, Nelly. Hold up.
To which I say, shh. Listen to me.
Go pick out a bathing suit that you want to wear this summer. Something you want to feel confident in. Every girl loves a cute bathing suit and sometimes bathing suit shopping can be scary.
Not anymore! It’s time to overcome your fear and go get a suit!
Buy it, and hang it in your closet as a reminder to yourself of what you’re on the road to accomplishing.
Really start to learn to love yourself for who you are and who you were created to be and this summer, when you put on your new bathing suit and finally realize just how beautiful you are and what you can accomplish, your life will change.
There’s nothing wrong with feeling good about yourself. My husband has always told me that the sexiest thing I can wear is confidence. When I was pregnant and after I had my son, I lost that confidence.
But through hard work and determination, I gained it back and you can too.
You’re beautiful. Now. Go shopping for your new suit!
