We’ve all been there. We’re in the dressing room and we have to do the “legging check”. Where you bend over in the mirror and check to make sure that your leggings aren’t see through.
I mean, the last thing you want is to be doing a back squat and our bright panties be shining through the leggings. I mean, I’ve been there. I have gotten home from a workout and realized my leggings were see through. It is a traumatic experience.
Plus, it’s just not a good look, ladies.
Personally, I like to test clothes and products and then let you know how it works out.
Now, if you’ve been following me for awhile, I am a bit of practicality mixed with some bling, dark eyeliner, and black or white nails.
This means that the clothes I choose, are going to be either cheap in price with good quality, or more expensive in price and wear the one or two I bought over and over again until they’re worn out.
Here’s how we’re going to do this.
I will take you through some of my favorites of everything. Bras, panties, socks, leggings, shorts, tops- long sleeve and short, headbands, shoes – both cardio and weight training, even hair ties and Bobbi pins.
Some of these will be affiliate links, some will not.
Here’s why that is. I firmly believe in promoting the best products to you, whether I get paid for it or not. It’s just the way I do things.
My success is when you’re successful.
So let’s get this going shall we? Let’s start with what’s under your clothes. Your bra and underwear.
Top Workout Clothes Brands – Bra
My favorite bra is from LuLuLemon. The Enlite Bra, whether you’re bigger chested or smaller, this bra will tie those girls down and hold them in place.
The fabric is so soft and it’s breathable. It hooks in the back and has a nice strappy back.
I can literally jump up and down and the girls do not move, plus, I can still breathe.
My training regimen is tough and it puts a strain on my bras, but these babies handle it like a champ.
Here’s the only downside- it’s expensive. But it’s worth the expense, especially if your girls tend to be give you trouble during your workouts.
If you’re unsure of your size, you can actually measure yourself at home. This is my personal favorite and it’s a fairly new favorite. If you want more info on bras, you can head to my other post that is all about bras, here.
Top Workout Clothes Brands – Panties
Let’s talk underwear. I’ll be honest, for the longest time, I wore the full coverage panties while working out because who wants something shoved up their hiney crack while working out?
Enter Under Armour thongs.
They’re soft, they cover the who-ha, you don’t feel them in your bum crack, and you don’t have panty lines where everyone can tell you’re wearing granny panties.
Top Workout Clothes Brands – Socks
Next on the essentials is socks! I’m a runner and weight trainer, plus I’m on my feet a lot working with clients and I need some cushy socks.
Enter Belaga socks. The most under appreciated sock in the fitness industry.
They’re amazing. They hug your mid-foot and have a lip at the heel to avoid slippage into your shoe while you’re working out.
The toe seam is pretty well nonexistent so blisters are not on the menu.
Top 5 Brands of Workout Clothes – Leggings
Now that under your clothes is taken care of, let’s talk about clothes people will see.
I love Lululemon leggings. Love them. They’re obnoxiously expensive but they are absolutely fantastic.
There’s so many different styles and shapes and sizes and they’re amazing. They’re a thicker material with no stress of the dreaded crack showing.
It’s simply a solid brand. That’s it. They also have “normal” clothes but since I have clients at a gym and chase an almost 3 year old around the other parts of the day, cute gym clothes are my jam.
You can totally order online, but if you haven’t tried them on before, I totally suggest finding a store and popping in there to try on your leggings. Just to make sure that’s actually the size you want.
I am wearing these leggings in the picture I’m showing you the bra above
Top 5 Brands of Workout Clothes – Shorts
The topic of shorts is an interesting one. How short is too short? Do you buy fitted shorts? Or lose shorts?
Okay, your shorts are too short if your cheeks are hanging out or your who-ha is apparent. Ya feel me?
I like the fitted shorts, personally and Just Strong has a great pair of fitted shorts that are longer and don’t ride up.
I love Just Strong’s message of focusing on women and teaching them to be strong and be who they are. It really lines up with my message.
Tip- The sizes do run a touch small, so if you like a more snug fit, get your normal size. If you like a more loose fit, then go a size up.
They’re awesome and you can grab them by clicking that link up there and using discount code AGEORGE10 at checkout! (see picture of shorts below short sleeve shirt recommendation)
Top 5 Brands of Workout Clothes Shirts- short sleeve
Two brands I like for tank tops for working out.
One is Lululemon because they have so many different cuts and shapes. You can find one for each body type.
The other, is Just Strong and I love their phrase T-backs. They have some really fun sayings.
You can order here and use discount code AGEORGE10 at checkout to get a discount on your purchase!
Top Workout Clothes Brands – Long sleeve tops:
I hate wearing long sleeves to workout. But! Sometimes I run outside while it’s cool and to run, I’d rather wear shorts and long sleeve shirt.
We’re back to Under Armour.
While Under Armour has different kinds of long sleeve shirts, my favorite is the one that is probably the least cute.
Remember what I said about practicality? Yep, here it is.
But, the shirt is amazing, it breathes, and it’s a soft material while not giving you arm pit chaffing.
Can I get a hallelujah and an amen? Okay. Let’s move on.
Let’s talk shoes:
Top Workout Clothes Brands – Shoes for Cardio
For cardio, such as running and higher intensity circuit training I recommend grabbing a shoe with more cushion in the sole.
Without good shoes, your feet do not get the proper support that they need to be able to handle the beating that they take while doing high intensity circuits or running.
If you’re wearing old worn out shoes, you will be hurting and I’m not talking muscle soreness.
I’m talking pain in joints and other parts of the body. This is because your feet take the full impact of your body weight each time you make a movement through your circuits!
Reebok Harmony Roads are my absolute favorite. While they aren’t what I’d call ‘super cool’ looking, the cushion they have in them coupled with the support of the foot from the heel to the toe is next to none.
Top Workout Clothes Brands – Shoes for Weight Training
For weight training, you’re going to want a flatter sole on the shoe. Which is where I like the Reebok Nanos.
They’re flat soled and perfect for weight training of all kinds.
These two Reebok shoes are the ones I personally wear for my training. If you follow along on the fun on Instagram, I’m sure that you’ve seen them in stories and posts.
Top Workout Clothes Brands – Head Bands
I do love me a good headband. The wider the better. The thin ones are typically way too tight and they give me a headache.
You know what I’m talking about. The ones in high school we would wear in gym because that was when headbands started coming back. This was like 2004. I’m dating myself.. Okay, let’s move on.
My favorite headbands are from Francesca’s. They are wide, soft, and super cute.
My sister (hubbie’s sis- I hate the word sis in law) got me my first one from Francescas for Christmas this past year, because I’m so picky on headbands, I had been wearing the same three I had gotten from Under Armour 5 years ago and they don’t make them anymore.
I loved the headband so much that the day after Christmas I literally went to the store here in my home town and bought 3 more. They’re amazing.
I wear them as normal everyday wear, or for working out. They’re awesome.
When I went into the store, I looked around and realized I was the old lady the store and I’m only 30. Oh well. 🙂
Get you some Francesca’s headbands. You won’t regret it.
Top Workout Clothes Brands – Bobbi Pins and Hair Ties
Last, but certainly not least, let’s talk Bobbi Pins and Hair Ties. These are easy.
We gals spend a lot of time with our hair tied in an obscene pineapple on top of our heads. This means that your hair takes quite a beating over the course of a week and your ties have to be good hair ties that will not rip up your hair.
Especially you with the color treated hair. Yep, you! And me too. I pay to be this blonde!
To be honest, I don’t think this one takes much explaining, I won’t bore you with talking about how great a hair tie is. These however are my favorite. Ouchless Elastic Styling Accessories Pony Tail Holder Ribbon Bands – By Kenz Laurenz.
It claims it doesn’t “leave a crease” but it totally does. However! I haven’t had any broken hair since using this which is the most important thing anyway, right? You can grab a pack of twenty for $6!
Now, for Bobbi Pins, I love Meta Grip.
Bobbi Pins are not a one size fits all, I don’t care what anybody says. I’ve got through probably thousands of Bobbi Pins and Meta Grips are by far my favorite.
They hold super well, they have a nice rubber tip so you don’t scratch your head or tear up your hair.
You can grab them on Amazon!
Yowza. That was a lot. You ready to go shopping?
Let me leave you with a couple of final thoughts..
For LuLulemon, I would highly highly HIGHLY recommend that you go into the store and find the legging or shorts that you want.
Their sizing thew me off, so don’t be afraid to ask for help. They’re super nice and helpful. I almost ordered online but I’m really glad I didn’t!
For any of the others, they run fairly true to size (unless otherwise commented on the paragraph) and you should be just fine ordering online.
Don’t forget that I never recommend clothes that I don’t wear or don’t believe in. Like I said at the beginning of the post, affiliate or not, I’m going to give it to you straight.
This is about giving you the best advice I can on workout clothes that you can trust!
