Anybody else feel like we’re in a weird movie? Everything is closed, we have to wear gloves to go to the store and everything is just weird. Living room workouts are now a super popular thing and your children are in a weird mood too because their schedules are messed up…
That being said, I’m loving the time at home with my family and exploring living room workouts further. Even though, I actually take my workouts into the garage, but living room works too!
During my years as a coach, I have been a coach that coaches people in a gym. Don’t get me wrong, my home workout plans are effective which you’ll see here in just a bit, but I love working out in a gym with heavy equipment.
BUT WHAT ABOUT WHEN THAT SIMPLY ISN’T AN OPTION?
Quarantine or not, there are time and even seasons of life that getting to the gym might not be feasible and this is where doing living room workouts can become super important.
Here’s the deal though, I have found that some of my mamas (readers and clients) are telling me that they feel even busier while being under quarantine instead of less busy.
This is translating to a lack of motivation to workout or maybe even feeling lost. They’re at their home, with minimal equipment (if any) and it simply demotivates them.
Because I’m hearing this, I’m writing this post. 6 Never Fail Tips to be Motivated to Workout During Quarantine. So let’s get going!
6 Tips for being motivated for your living room workouts!
STAYING MOTIVATED FOR LIVING ROOM WORKOUTS #1 – REMEMBER HOW FAR YOU HAVE COME ON YOUR JOURNEY
First thing is first. Before you decide that you’ll just ‘get back to it’ when the gym opens back up, remember how far you have come on your journey.
Think back to how hard you have worked to make this much progression in your health and fitness.
REMEMBER THAT FIRST WEEK?
You were crazy sore and thought that you had lost your mind a little bit, hadn’t you? How about week 4? A month in and you thought that you would just give up.
But you overcame all of those obstacles.
You’ve learned where your strengths and weaknesses are; and you’re learning to exploit your strengths and work through your weaknesses.
You’ve come SO far. And if you give up now, simply because the gym isn’t open, then think about just how far you’ve come and how much you don’t want to start all over.
Ever hear the saying, if you keep going you won’t have to keep starting over. It’s so true!
STAYING MOTIVATED FOR LIVING ROOM WORKOUTS #2- INVEST IN A NEW WORKOUT OUTFIT
Listen, a little bit of online shopping therapy isn’t going to hurt anybody. Get out there and invest in a new workout outfit.
No, I’m not just talking about a new top. I’m talking about a new outfit. New leggings or shorts and new top, new socks, maaaayyybbee even new shoes.
Because, if you’re feeling like a zombie mommy, then that will make you not want to workout even more. Don’t believe me? Grab an outfit and wear it all day before your workout.
Even better? Put on a touch of makeup. I’m not saying get dolled up, just put on some powder, a bit of eyeliner or mascara and fill in your brows with some chapstick.
Girl. You’ll feel like a new woman. I’m totally not even kidding. Who cares if it all sweats off while you workout? It HELPED YOU get to the workout, didn’t it?
I’ve got a couple of ideas for you in regards to outfits. Grab a pair of leggings or shorts. WE’re heading into the warm months here in the states so grab some shorts. Grab a fresh pair of socks. My favorite are BAlega’s (see below Amazon affiliate link) and heck maybe even a new bra.
Then, you’ll need a top. JustStrong has some awesome tops both with sleeves and without. They’ve got some phrase tanks and support tanks.
I always get compliments when I wear my JustStrong tanks. Use code AGEORGE10 at checkout for a discount! (affiliate codes mean that you get a discount and I get a small commission. It’s a win win!)
STAYING MOTIVATED FOR LIVING ROOM WORKOUTS #3- CLEAR OUT A SPACE IN YOUR HOME SPECIFICALLY FOR WORKOUTS
Now, if you are living in a home with a child or children, then it tends to get messy, doesn’t it?
Girl, believe me, I know. My child is fairly decent about putting his things back and it still seems like everything gets out of control.
This is where it will be super important to clear a space to do your workouts.
All of my workout equipment is in the garage. I will back out my SUV and then I have a full space to do my workouts.
I put it all back and then pull the car back in.
This is because it is dang near…. No, not nearly, it IS impossible to do a decent workout when you’re tripping over toys and things all over the floor.
SO! CLEAR THE SPACE MAMA AND GET TO WORK. HERE’S SOME IDEAS FOR YOU:
- Living Room
- Extra Bedroom
- Dining Room
PLACES I DON’T RECOMMEND TO WORKOUT:
- Your own bedroom
- Your child’s bedroom
- The kitchen
STAYING MOTIVATED FOR LIVING ROOM WORKOUTS #4- GRAB YOUR SPOUSE TO DO IT WITH YOU
Chances are, your spouse is working from home with you during this quarantine unless they are an essential healthcare worker.
If not, bless you and them both and thank you both for your sacrifices.
However, if he is home with you, tell him how important it is to you to get your workout in and you would love for him to do it with you.
THAT YOU BOTH CAN BE ACCOUNTABILITY PARTNERS AND DO IT TOGETHER.
Let the kiddos watch a movie and y’all get a workout in. There’s no shame in letting them watch a movie or do some kind of focused activity that will let you get your workout in and some solid 1:1 time with your spouse.
STAYING MOTIVATED FOR LIVING ROOM WORKOUTS #5-GRAB A HOME WORKOUT PLAN THAT IS NOT BORING
There seems to be this preconceived notion that home workouts are boring or ineffective.
This simply isn’t true. When a solid workout plan is put together, it can not only be effective, it can be a staple in a normal routine.
I have solid home workout plans in my store. They’re amazingly effective and don’t require any equipment. You can use dumbbells or bands, but they’re not required.
Here’s what Jen said about my home workout the other day when she sent me a message:
She’s on day 16 and already lost 5 pounds! Even if weight loss isn’t your goal, these workouts will help you get stronger and keep you progressing.
STAYING MOTIVATED FOR LIVING ROOM WORKOUTS #6- CREATE A KILLER PLAYLIST
Last, but certainly not least, is to create an absolutely killer playlist for amazing living room workouts. I wrote a post over here with 210 songs on them that will create a fantastic playlist to keep you motivated while you’re doing your workouts.
Never underestimate the power of amazing music!
Allow me to give you a bonus tip really fast.
Don’t be too hard on yourself. I am the world’s worst at being too hard on myself.
If we’re being perfectly real and honest, I struggle with ever feeling like I’ve done enough or am good enough. This is something that I have put in my head and I do my best to put down the lies with the Word.
We have to cut ourselves some slack during this time. Things are crazy weird and we’re all wanting to come out on the other side of this in one piece and not completely lost our sanity.
Believe me when I say the workouts will help. Whether they’re living room workouts, garage workouts, or wherever. The movement will keep the endorphins (happy hormones) rolling and your serotonin (mood regulators) levels where they should be.
Hang in there and stay safe and healthy.
