Anybody who is on Pinterest has tried SOMETHING and it miserably failed. You can literally go to Pinterest and type in “Pinterest Fail” and a plethora of images pop up that will leave you in stitches. So what is my Pinterest fail and why am I telling you about it? Because, it’s for your benefit plus you’ll get a laugh out of it. Just call me Mother Goose because this story has a moral.
Where did this start?
Let’s get the sob story out of the way really quickly here. A few weeks ago from this very second that I write this, I and my teammate at my 9-5 were laid off of our corporate jobs due to cut backs. You know what? It has been a blessing and I can now focus on what I love to do most which is help you. Yep, YOU reading this right now.
Well, with this lay off went my health insurance and the my hubby’s health insurance won’t let me hop on it in the middle of a month… blah blah blah okay great. POINT IS- I DEVELOPED A COUGH. A fairly nasty cough to be precise. However, I haven’t been able to go to the doc to make sure I’m not dying of pneumonia or something because I don’t have insurance until the first of January. So, I was trying to let it ride out when low and behold it kept getting worse. I suddenly got a pain in my rib cage that got super bad over the course of a 48 hour period.
This caused me to place a call into my friend that is a Chiropractor. In addition to my death by cough, I had a rib that was out of place. If you’ve never had that before, it is insanely painful. In my life, I’ve had two surgeries, been through labor and this pain ranked right up there. Thankfully we were able to set the rib and I am on the mend but I can’t workout or run really until the first of the year which stinks. So what about my cough? Let’s talk about that…
Enter Doctor Pinterest
Now that you have the back story and my rib is back in place, I still have to get rid of this awful cough so that it won’t aggravate my rib and it possibly pop back out. I start looking for home remedies for this nasty cough. Don’t ask me why I didn’t look for this sooner, sometimes I can’t think past my nose.
One natural remedy that I found was a sort of ginger paste with apple cider vinegar which has a ton of benefits and other things in the mixture. I won’t tag the blog because I don’t want to shed a bad light on them because they’re totally not a bad blog or give bad advice, it’s just me that can’t do DIY to save my life.
This remedy is supposed to be a ginger type paste – yes PASTE not liquid- that you put on a gauze strip and tape it to your chest or back. Well, mine somehow did not come out a paste…. It came out a full on liquid that looked like baby diarrhea.

Literally not even kidding right now..
This stuff was not a paste as it should have been, it was totally a liquid but my brilliant self thought that I could catch it with tape. We’ve all had our moments of stupidity and don’t even try to deny it. We get this idea that we think is going to be absolutely awesome and we’re going to be able to tell it at the Thanksgiving table for years to come about how we did such and such.
The point I realized that this was not going to be that story was when I could feel this goopy stuff running down my stomach and some how dripping on the floor and on my shoes.
Obviously I took a video of the madness which is what you see up there but I immediately proceed to the shower followed by a treatment of my clothing hoping that this goopy glob that looks like something out of a 1950’s horror movie doesn’t stain my clothes.
Why should you care and what’s this mean for you?
- Some days you just need a good laugh. It’s true and you know it and I’m one that doesn’t mind people having a chuckle at my expense.
- Don’t wait to take care of yourself. As soon as my cough showed up, I should have been working to try to get rid of it. Instead I waited it out thinking my body would naturally kick it without any help. This then caused me to have a severe cough that I believe actually caused my rib to pop out of place. I’m not a doctor but that’s just my guess. Now, because I didn’t take care of myself at the first sign of distress, I can’t run or do my normal workouts for over a week! I’m not being sedentary by any means, but I can’t lift like normal or run which stinks. We tend to be quick to take care of others but not ourselves. Example – one of my running athletes asked me less than two weeks ago, “Hey, I’ve got a really sore throat and stuffy nose, should I keep running in this weather?” I told him no, you need to take a few days rest so you don’t fall behind and possibly go to the doc for him to recommend over the counter med or even a prescription. But did I follow my own advice? Nope. Bad influence on my part.
- Don’t be afraid to go to the doctor. I am not a medical professional, but I am a personal trainer and running coach and should know better than to wait to go get help; insurance or not. I waited way too long and my cough could have easily turned into pneumonia.
Here’s my last thought on this whole situation. Use your best judgement okay? Be smart and take care of yourself. That is what a healthy lifestyle is all about. Self care through good choices with your food, your exercise, and your over all health. I am ALL for natural remedies but sometimes the body needs medicine and that’s okay. That’s where your doc comes in and can help you get the right stuff needed for your body.
Learn from my mistake and use your best judgement while trying out these natural remedies on the internet because you just don’t know who has put it up!
