Ever wish that you could start over? A fresh start; a new beginning. Starting fresh on your goals. Not just your weight loss goals and your eating goals; Your goals in your overall life. You feel like somewhere along the way, you have lost your sense of self.
I know I have felt that way before. There was a time in my life just a few years ago where I wanted to start over with myself.
But let’s rewind a bit further than a few years ago to give you a bit of context.
When I graduated college, I did what every good college graduate was supposed to do. I went and found a job that was considered a “good job”.
You know what I’m talking about. You graduate and you go get a full time job with insurance and benefits and do what “you’re supposed to do”.
Over the course of the next several years, I continued to do “what you’re supposed to do”.
I worked hard and smart. Within the course of 18 months of me graduating, I already had a promotion. Then, 2.5 years after that, I got another promotion.
Somewhere along the way, I had lost a sense of myself and poured myself into work that I cared absolutely nothing about.
I felt like I was being called to something more than creating PowerPoints for executives and managing a program that I knew within a few years would mean nothing and would not matter. (And- spoiler alert- I was right. That program and job no longer exists at that company. )
In 2015, I became pregnant with my son and I continued to work full time. Around month 7 of my pregnancy, I was in bed a lot due to illness, severe swelling, high blood pressure, and uncontrollable weight gain. I was still working, but from home on a laptop.
It was during this time that I realized that something would have to change but I didn’t know what or how. But I knew that within a few years, I didn’t want to be in a corporate job anymore.
Fast forward to after the birth of my son.
Take a look at the below video from my tiny YouTube channel explaining in 60 seconds why I got started doing what I’m doing.
New Beginnings Step 1- Identify Where You Want to Go
It hit me around six months into my weight loss journey that women all over this planet were being lied to regarding weight loss and healthy living.
We had always been told that healthy living was eating boiled chicken and 12 pounds of kale per day and that was TOTALLY wrong.
Ironically enough, it was around spring of 2017 that I was hit by the metaphorical truck of realization that my time to ‘start over’ was close at hand.
I had finally figured out what my new beginnings was and that it had started when I became pregnant with my son.
The pregnancy was preparing me to be able to tell women all over the world the truth about healthy living.
The TRUTH about body image and that you don’t have to be a size 4 to be healthy, fit and strong.
It was then that I realized what I needed to do. But how?
New Beginnings Step 2 – Set Goals and Create a Plan
At that time, I had a 9 month old and still had a full time job. How in the world was I going to start over? It was impossible, right?
No. It’s not impossible.
When you’re called to do something with your life, there will be a way. But “wishing” something into existence isn’t a thing.
I created goals. Then, I created a plan, and I worked that plan. This was my new beginning and I had a chance to take it by the horns and I did.
Over the course of the next 12 months, I started a blog, I studied and obtained 2 certifications along with a specialty license, and started taking on clients.
My plan was to keep my full time job until I was making a full time income from my new beginning.
However, my plan is not always God’s plan.
In winter of 2018, the organization that I was in was laid off. I and my team all lost our jobs along with literally thousands of other people.
Talk about new beginnings, right?
But, it’s okay. My husband and I knew that I was on the right track. I was helping women all over the country meet and exceed their fitness goals and teaching them how to live an overall healthy lifestyle.
New Beginnings Step #3 – Be Prepared for Setbacks
As much as we don’t like it, life comes with setbacks. Especially when we are learning and trying new things, there WILL be setbacks. It’s a fact.
It’s how we handle those setbacks that determines success.
That’s where your plan comes in. When you create your goals and your plan and work your plan and a setback comes, you can go to your plan and refocus.
Determine ahead of time how you’re going to handle setbacks, handle the setbacks, and move on with your life.
Let’s be clear here…
Setbacks does not mean that you have failed. It means that you’re trying and that you’re moving forward in your life.
Here’s an example:
Did you know that this blog/business has had 3 different names? Oh yeah, girl. When I first started this blog/business I had no clue what I was doing in regards to business.
Now, I may have a business degree, but they didn’t teach us how to start our own business. They taught us the basics of business and called it a degree.
So, needless to say, I bit off a lot when I started my new beginning. Not only was I starting my own business, I had to study for my upcoming certification tests and actually learn the material so I can help others and not just memorize it for a test.
All while being a wife and mother. It was and sometimes still is hard.
What I’m trying to say is…
You won’t get it right the first time, or the second time, heck, maybe not even the 12th time. It’s the imperfect progress in your new beginning that will eventually get you to your goals and dreams. Consistency is KEY.
What happens when you achieve your goal and dream?
That’s the beauty of it; you get to find a new dream.
Sometimes new beginnings are scary.
I used to hate change and to be honest, I still do a lot of times. But what has made all of the difference is learning to embrace the change and adapt to it.
There are few certainties in life and one of those is that change will happen. Learning to embrace the change and take it head on will make your changes more comfortable.
Here’s the deal.
You have goals and dreams you want to accomplish. I know you do. Are you ready to work to make those happen?
